About Me

I became interested in photography when I was aged 10 or so. I would get to use my Father's Box Brownie, then his Brownie 127. I was then given a Halina (Simplette I believe) 126 cartridge and flash cube camera, as a birthday present. My love of photography deepened during my years at secondary school. Fortunately the school had a thriving photography club, it was here that I learned the technical fundamentals of exposure, composition and light. Also, darkroom facilities were available so I was taught to develop monochrome film, use a contact printer and enlarger. I have found these techniques have stood me in good stead in the digital age!

After the Halina my first 35mmSLR was a Zenit E, a great camera for the money. I had this for many years before moving to a Canon AE-1 Program. With the additional lenses and filters available this camera took my photography to a new level. While still using the AE-1 my transition to digital began with an Epson 750z. This had a Tiffen lens adapter for filters and wide angle shooting. Although only 3M pixels via software it gave excellent results. I replaced this with a Nikon 8800 which I still have in the bag today - see opposite.

So, forty years on from the Box Brownie, I have decided to turn pro, join the Royal Photographic Society and start a new career. This, from my base here in NE Scotland. Having a background in electronics and IT I have found the transition to digital a relatively easy one, luckily. However I much prefer to spend hours behind the lens rather than the computer. I shoot virtually all my images in RAW format, making all the necessary adjustments in Adobe Lightroom. I hope you enjoy the web site!
